How to Search Westchester 72 Hour Booking Records
Start with the county's online inmate search. It is the quickest way. Go to the Westchester inmate search page and type in the person's last name. You can add their first name and date of birth to narrow things down. The tool shows current inmates only. If someone has been released, they won't show up.
For state-level searches, the DOCCS Incarcerated Individual Lookup covers all 44 state correctional facilities. This helps when someone has been moved from the Westchester County jail to a state prison. You can search by name and birth year. The system is up Monday through Friday from 12:00 AM to 11:45 PM and weekends from 12:30 AM to 11:30 PM. The VINELink system also tracks inmates across the state and can send you alerts when someone's status changes.
If you need records from the arresting police department, contact them directly. Westchester County has many local police forces. Yonkers, White Plains, New Rochelle, and Mount Vernon all have their own departments. Each one keeps its own arrest logs separate from the county jail records.
The DOCCS portal shown above gives real-time data on state inmates who may have been transferred from Westchester County after their initial booking.

Put your request in writing and send it to the Records Access Officer at the department that made the arrest.
For Westchester County Department of Correction records, send your FOIL request to their office at 10 Woods Road, Valhalla, NY 10595. Include the person's name, approximate date of arrest, and what records you want. Be specific. The agency must respond within five business days. Copy fees are typically 25 cents per page. Since Civil Rights Law § 50-a was repealed in 2020, law enforcement disciplinary records are now subject to FOIL too, though medical info gets redacted.
The DCJS FOIL page has more details on what you can and can't get through FOIL. You can also submit requests to the New York State Police through their online portal if the arrest was made by a state trooper in Westchester County.
Note: Criminal history records from DCJS are not available through FOIL. You can only request your own criminal history through the DCJS Record Review process.
What Westchester 72 Hour Booking Records Contain
A 72 hour booking record in Westchester County has the basic info about the arrest. The person's full name, date of birth, and physical description. A mugshot. The charges filed. The date and time of arrest. Which agency made the arrest. The booking officer's name. Which facility the person is held in.
Bail and bond details are also part of the record. It shows how much bail was set at, what type of bond was used, and whether bail was posted. Court info includes the docket number and next court date. If the case has been resolved, the disposition shows up too. These records help you track where someone is in the system right after arrest.
Westchester County booking records also include:
- NYSID number (New York State Identification)
- Arrest number or case number
- Type of arrest (warrant, on-view, or citizen's arrest)
- Property inventory taken at booking
- Housing unit assignment
Record Sealing in Westchester County
Some booking records in Westchester County may get sealed over time. Under CPL § 160.50, if a criminal case ends in the person's favor, all records related to the arrest and prosecution get sealed. That means the booking record, mugshot, and fingerprints are pulled from public view. Only the person named in the record can access them after that.
CPL § 160.59 lets certain convictions get sealed too. You can apply if you have no more than two convictions with only one felony. The court decides. Youthful offender records under CPL § 720.35 are always kept private. These rules affect what shows up when you search Westchester County 72 hour booking records. A record that was public last month could be sealed today if the case was dismissed or the person qualified for sealing.
Correction Law § 9 also plays a role for state records. DOCCS must remove online info for certain non-violent offenders five years after they finish their sentence or parole. But that only covers the state database, not the county-level booking logs.
